About the Role:

As Controller, you will lead our Controllership team and collaborate cross-functionally with the broader Finance department and organization as a whole. You’ll own the entire Controllership function at Chief, defining the company’s policies and procedures and leading a dynamic team. You will manage the company’s general, technical and operational accounting processes, continually ensuring compliance with regulations and best practices. Reporting to the CFO, you will have an exciting opportunity to manage and drive the Controllership function for a high growth and mission-driven company.

What You’ll Do:

  • Oversee the accounting, payroll, AP, T&E, and Billing functions and teams, with both strategic and future-state planning and hands-on involvement required in all areas
  • Lead the month-end close process and financial statement review, reporting on insights, discrepancies / anomalies and recommendations, partnering with Strategic Finance for a seamless view between historicals and forecasts
  • Own the preparation and audit of the year-end financial statements, working closely with the external auditors to ensure a smooth and timely process
  • Continue to establish, document, and disseminate the company-wide Controllership framework, including technical and operational accounting policies, procedures, controls and trainings
  • Drive ongoing improvement of month-end close and financial reporting procedures to provide timely and accurate information for data-driven decision making
  • Partner with the Strategic Finance team in areas including planning, budgeting, forecast, and financial reviews
  • Partner with the Financial Transformation team to continue to scale end-to-end business processes, systems, and financial controls in support of the future growth of the Company
  • Collaborate with other departments to provide value-add financial support and guidance on cross-functional projects, initiatives and strategic decision making, including accounting reporting implications of business decisions
  • Communicate with internal and external partners at various levels
  • Manage, mentor, and train Controllership team members
  • Stay current with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies

What You’ve Done and Enjoy Doing:

  • Deep knowledge of GAAP and other regulatory requirements

  • Extensive experience with SaaS accounting and business models

  • Proven track record of success with establishing, managing, and evolving accounting policies and procedures in early stage, high-growth companies
  • Strong technical accounting background, with thorough knowledge of GAAP accounting principles and procedures, including experience with GAAP technical accounting research and new accounting standard implementation
  • Experience with implementation and/or optimization of Financial Systems
  • Operational accounting experience (AP, Payroll, banking, T&E, etc.)
  • Familiarity with tax is a plus
  • Strong interpersonal skills, an ability to work cross-functionally, and a knack for presenting financial information in a way that others can understand easily
  • Highly analytical and detail-oriented, with a strong sense of ownership
  • Experience with NetSuite, Quickbooks, Chargebee, SFDC, Tipalti, Bill.com, and/or Expensify
  • Passion for the Company’s mission, positioning and brand — to empower women in business and spark change from the top
  • Adept at prioritization, responsiveness and understanding a sense of urgency with the ability to balance multiple projects
  • High degree of integrity, professionalism, and discretion
  • BA/BS, CPA required
  • Big 4 audit and start-up experience are strong pluses

The base salary for this role is: $185,000
