About Etched

Etched is building AI chips that are hard-coded for individual model architectures. Our first product (Sohu) only supports transformers, but has an order of magnitude more throughput and lower latency than a B200. With Etched ASICs, you can build products that would be impossible with GPUs, like real-time video generation models and extremely deep & parallel chain-of-thought reasoning agents.

Key responsibilities

  • HRIS Management: Administer and maintain our HRIS, working with our PEO to manage Payroll, and Benefits through Sequoia and Rippling, ensuring data accuracy and integrity.

  • Reporting and Analytics: Generate reports and provide analytics support to the finance and executive team on People-related matters (compensation, benefits, etc.).

  • Employee Lifecycle Management: Ensuring a seamless and positive journey for employees, interns, and contractors (recruiting, onboarding, and offboarding).

  • HR Business Partner Support: Provide HRBP support to employees and managers for career development, optimizing performance, and further coaching.

  • Visa Triage: Act as a point of contact for visa-related inquiries, triaging cases and coordinating with external counsel as needed.

  • Employee Inquiry Management: Field and resolve employee questions regarding reimbursements, payroll, benefits, and other HR-related matters, ensuring timely and accurate responses.

  • Office and Facilities Management: Oversee office and facility associates, ensuring a productive and well-maintained work environment.

  • Business Involvement: Actively participate in business discussions and contribute to strategic initiatives, providing HR insights and perspectives. Maintain documentation and ensure compliance across the business.

Representative projects

  • Employee recognition programs and culture initiatives (e.g. peer recognition, awards, public acknowledgements, team-building events, reinforcing company values)

  • Performance management system implementation and Learning & Development programs

  • HRIS implementation or optimization: implementing Rippling and building out an HR team to include in-house payroll and benefits administration

  • Daily lunch and dinner in our office

  • Relocation support for those moving to Cupertino

How we’re different

Etched believes in the Bitter Lesson. We think most of the progress in the AI field has come from using more FLOPs to train and run models, and the best way to get more FLOPs is to build model-specific hardware. Larger and larger training runs encourage companies to consolidate around fewer model architectures, which creates a market for single-model ASICs.

We are a fully in-person team in Cupertino, and greatly value engineering skills. We do not have boundaries between engineering and research, and we expect all of our technical staff to contribute to both as needed.
