About Etched

Etched is building AI chips that are hard-coded for individual model architectures. Our first product (Sohu) only supports transformers, but has an order of magnitude more throughput and lower latency than a B200. With Etched ASICs, you can build products that would be impossible with GPUs, like real-time video generation models and extremely deep & parallel chain-of-thought reasoning agents.

Job Summary

As a Manufacturing Test Infrastructure Engineer, you will be part of a team responsible for the design, procurement, deployment, and maintenance of test infrastructure. You will be tasked with understanding test infrastructure hardware requirements, capacity modeling, managing deployment schedules, managing test development budgets, and overall execution/sustaining of test infrastructure across our global manufacturing partners. You will be well-versed in the CM/DF/FA manufacturing environments, write automation scripts, and use configuration management tools to ensure product test infrastructure are designed, developed, and deployed on time into our partner factories.

  • Design, procure, provision, and deploy manufacturing test infrastructure to local and global manufacturing partners.

  • Troubleshoot, fix, replace equipment that breaks in our manufacturing production environment.

  • Design and implement efficient test data processing and visualization techniques

  • Implement diagnostic tools to support benchmarking and characterization of test equipment hardware and production test network.

  • Enable end-to-end component to product to sales order and RMA traceability.

You may be a good fit if you have

  • Proficiency in Python, GoLang and/or Bash scripting.

  • Experience in both low-level operating system functionality (e.g.memory/IO/Disk/CPU/resource management/RAID) as well as high-level application level Linux software.

  • Knowledge of computer networks (TCP/IP), protocols, SNMP. Ability to troubleshoot and debug network issues.

  • Ability to read hardware spec and data sheets

  • Experience with manufacturing and provisioning processes for test equipment.

  • Experience with training and working with manufacturing contract manufacturers

  • Ability to work with cross functional teams such as IT, Buyer, Program Manager, NPI, Mfg Test, Diagnostic teams from both within the organization as well as the corresponding teams of our manufacturing partners.

  • Relocation support for those moving to San Jose (Santana Row)

How we’re different

Etched believes in the Bitter Lesson. We think most of the progress in the AI field has come from using more FLOPs to train and run models, and the best way to get more FLOPs is to build model-specific hardware. Larger and larger training runs encourage companies to consolidate around fewer model architectures, which creates a market for single-model ASICs.

We are a fully in-person team in San Jose (Santana Row), and greatly value engineering skills. We do not have boundaries between engineering and research, and we expect all of our technical staff to contribute to both as needed.
