New Practice Openings Manager
New York, NY, USA
USD 90k-110k / year + Equity
Small Door is membership-based veterinary care designed with human standards that is better for pets, pet parents, and veterinarians alike. We designed and delivered a reimagined veterinary experience via a membership that includes exceptional care, 24/7 telemedicine, and transparent pricing - delivered with modern hospitality in spaces designed by animal experts to be stress-free. We opened our flagship location in Manhattan's West Village in 2019 and have quickly expanded across the East Coast. Small Door now operates in New York City, Boston, Washington DC, Maryland and Virginia with continued expansion plans in 2026.
At Small Door, we are opening 5–10 new practices per year — thoughtfully, intentionally, and always with the goal of redefining the member and team experience in veterinary medicine.
We are hiring a New Practice Opening Manager to bring each new practice to life operationally: from an empty shell to a fully running practice with trained teams, working systems, and a great first-day experience.
This is a hands-on, high-ownership role for someone who thrives in fast-paced, ambiguous, service-oriented environments. You'll coordinate across dozens of details, partners, and timelines — and make it look seamless.
What You’ll Do
Lead Operational Setup for All New Practices
Oversee the planning and execution of multiple veterinary practice openings across the country, ensuring adherence to project timelines, budget considerations, and quality standards.
Ensure each new practice is operationally ready on day one — equipment, supplies, systems, workflows, inventory, staffing partnership, and training.
Own the operational launch plan from site turnover to ~90 days post-opening.
Run Cross-Functional Launch Project Management
Coordinate with design & construction, procurement, IT, facilities, people operations, medical, and marketing to align on timelines and milestones.
Lead weekly NPO meetings, maintain documentation and playbooks, track tasks, and escalate risks early.
Be the operational owner of launch day readiness.
Lead On-Site Setup and Early Operations Support
Take charge of the site setup week for new locations, coordinating with local teams as needed to ensure seamless training and efficient operations.
Travel to new practices for setup week(s), training support, and go-live.
Troubleshoot operational issues quickly to ensure smooth workflows during the first member visits.
Provide ongoing support in the first 30–90 days as the practice stabilizes.
Manage Procurement, Equipment, and Site Readiness
Oversee opening procurement in partnership with construction, operations, and vendors.
Coordinate supply and small equipment delivery, installation, testing, and issue resolution.
Ensure all practice spaces are set up to Small Door standards (clean, on-brand, functional, and efficient).
Collaborate with our Medical teams to ensure that all practice openings comply with local, state, and federal regulations.
Coordinate Local Launch Marketing Execution
Partner with Growth/Marketing to manage and execute pre-opening strategy to hit membership targets prior to opening
Operationalize local outreach, signage, activation events, partnerships, and opening promotions.
Ensure the practice team is aligned on launch expectations and ready to deliver a consistent member experience.
Support Mature Practices Between Openings
-
During slower NPO periods, support central ops and practice teams with:
Inventory setup, product data cleanup, and ordering discipline.
Process rollouts and training refreshers.
Operational experience improvements and small-scale special projects.
Who you are
5+ years of experience in operations, facilities, project management, or new location openings within a multi-site business.
Proven experience opening new locations, practices, or brick-and-mortar facilities, with responsibility for coordinating vendors, stakeholders, and timelines from planning through launch.

Hands-on, resourceful operator who enjoys solving problems on the ground and doing whatever it takes to ensure a successful opening.
Strong communicator and relationship builder who can effectively partner across teams, vendors, and field operations.
