About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to own and lead the design and execution of mechanical design for our hardware devices and platforms. You will lead our existing and future JDMs from the conceptual stage through the development stage to mass production. As a senior member of the team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the usability and aesthetics of our devices. You will drive innovation, ensure that the mechanical design meets the highest standards of quality and reliability across the lifecycle of all of Inspiren’s devices and platforms.
What You'll Do
- Lead Mechanical Design Projects:
- Serve as the primary mechanical engineering point of contact for assigned ODM partners throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Drive mechanical design reviews, technical discussions, and problem-solving sessions with ODMs.
- Develop detailed mechanical specifications, test plans, and validation procedures.
- Identify and evaluate new materials, manufacturing processes, and technologies to improve product performance and reduce costs.
- Evaluate JDM proposed designs, provide constructive feedback, and ensure adherence to company specifications, quality standards, and design guidelines.
- Monitor JDM progress, identify potential risks, and proactively implement mitigation strategies.
- Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Collaborate closely with our outsourced design and development partners to optimize designs for high-volume manufacturing, assembly efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. Work closely with our hardware engineers, software developers, product managers, and other stakeholders to define mechanical industrial design requirements and specifications per product needs.
- Innovate and Optimize: Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies. Introduce new methodologies and technologies to enhance performance and meet design specifications. Provide technical expertise and support in mechanical engineering development, testing, and validation across the product lifecycle.
- Embed Rigorous Design for Excellence (DfX) Mindset: Conduct design reviews and both design and process failure mode effect analysis (FMEA), partnering with outsourced design and development partners to drive rigorous DfX (design for cost, supply chain, reliability, quality, manufacturing, etc.) methodologies across all phases of product development.
- Mentor Team Members: Provide technical guidance and mentorship, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous learning.
- Ensure Quality, Reliability, and Compliance: Oversee the prototyping process, conduct testing, and validate mechanical design performance and reliability against requirements, including environmental and accelerated testing. Ensure all mechanical designs meet regulatory standards and industry best practices. Set quality and reliability specifications.
- Problem-Solve: Troubleshoot complex mechanical design issues and implement effective solutions in a timely manner.
- Strategic Planning: Contribute to the long-term mechanical design roadmap, aligning development with the company’s product and platform roadmap.
Qualifications
- Educational Background: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering.Experience: 10+ years of hands-on mechanical engineering experience, having launched multiple hardware projects with outsourced design and manufacturing partners
- Mechanical CAD tool Proficiency: Expertise in SolidWorks and other 3D CAD tools.
- Mechanical Design Processes: Strong knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes and industry standards.
- Development Processes: Well-versed in the classic phase-gate hardware product development process.
- Injection Molding: Expertise in designing parts for injection molding and performing mold flow reviews
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly.Adaptability: Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapting to changing priorities. Start-up experience is a plus.
- Knowledge of regulatory compliance standards (e.g., FCC, CE, UL).
- Willingness and ability to travel to the US to collaborate with our team members.
