The Challenge to Solve
Provide Slice with up to date data to grow the business and to empower independent pizzeria owners to make the best data driven decisions through insights that ensure future success.

The Role
You’ll be a catalyst for extracting value from internal and external data sources which in turn will be used to fuel automation pipelines at Slice and to help our pizzerias partners run their businesses in a data driven manner. You’ll code daily, and work with some of the latest tools and frameworks in the field of Data Engineering. With varied tasks that utilise everything from Spark to Kafka to Kubernetes, you’ll have the opportunity to deepen your knowledge and focus on the areas you find interesting.

The Team
You’ll work with a team of skilled Data Engineers of different experience levels on a daily basis. The team pairs on projects frequently and are always happy to share feedback to help everyone grow. As a team, there is frequent partnership across the business with Data Analytics, Product and Engineering to provide both feature and reporting products. You’ll contribute to knowledge sharing within the team and be able to lean on a friendly bunch of engineers who are happy to share their expertise in return. This role reports to the Director of Data Engineering, and will have support of a Senior Engineer for day to day collaboration.

The Winning Recipe
We’re looking for creative, entrepreneurial engineers who are excited to build world-class products for small business counters. These are the core competencies this role calls for:

• Experience with modern cloud data processing architectures using programming languages such as Java, Scala or Python and technologies like Spark or working on data heavy backend problems
• Analytical mind and able to write SQL to solve business problems
• Understand or have worked with message queuing, stream processing using frameworks such as Flink or KStreams and highly scalable big data data stores, as well as storage and query pattern design with NoSQL stores
• Have knowledge of or have worked with infrastructure as code and implementing CI/CD pipelines to automate the deployment of data processing pipelines, including monitoring and observability
• Happy to work with unfamiliar technologies, loves learning, but knows when to reach out for help
